Holger Rune was less than impressed by the social media team of the ATP after his loss at the 2024 Monte-Carlo Masters.
The Dane manages his social media accounts, so he often sees what others post about him. One such instance happened after his loss to Jannik Sinner at the Monte-Carlo Masters on Friday, when the ATP Tour's X page posted a highlight from their match.
The highlight in question was Sinner's thunderous forehand, which put him up 30-0 on Rune's serve at 5-5 in the second set. The game ended up being notorious, featuring a time violation and a code violation for Rune's alleged unsportsmanlike conduct.
The time violation came after Rune took a long time to get ready for the point after the forehand in question by Sinner. The delay caused some minor boos from the crowd, who predominantly backed Sinner, and Rune made a gesture to them, which the umpire deemed inflammatory as it caused more boos.
He then gave him a code violation for unsportsmanlike conduct, which Rune didn't like, and he called for the supervisor. Eventually, the situation settled, and he was able to win both that game and that set but still lost in three sets.
He didn't like the X post, especially given the fact that he had to play his match after spending almost five hours on the court the previous day, and also the umpire made huge mistakes that could have cost him the second set.
"Meaning what @atptour …..? Not that you gave me the best conditions in the first place having to play 2 matches the day before ending late , leaving almost no recovery time. Chair Umpire making crucial mistakes and giving wrong warning that disturbed the game. May the force be with you. Jesus Christ."
