Rune Recalls Longtime Coach Christensen After Parting Ways With Mouratoglou

ATP Next Gen star Holger Rune will join forces with his longtime coach Lars Christensen once again and will travel as a team beginning with the China Open in Beijing.

The China Open commences on September 28th and will run till September 4th. Rune is part of a star-studded 32-man line-up for the 500-level event in which he is the tournament's number three seed. The ATP Tour is set to mark its return to China for the first time in four years.

Rune arrived in North America hot on the heels of a quarterfinal run at Wimbledon, where he lost to eventual champion Carlos Alcaraz. He was largely expected to challenge the world's top three players on hard courts. The young Dane put together an excellent first half of the season, culminating with a career-high ranking of No. 4.

Rune unexpectedly endured a dismal hard-court swing in Canada and the United States, failing to win a single match in three tournaments. That included an ignominious first-round exit at the US Open to Roberto Carballes Baena in which he voiced his frustration for being allocated an outside show court prior to the match.

Rune made a bold decision to fire renowned French coach Patrick Mouratoglou on the advice of his mother, Aneke, who made a stunning revelation about a clash of egos between Mouratoglou and Rune's longtime coach Christensen.

The two coaches accompanied Rune to tennis tournaments as a pair, but split duties during the clay and grass swing. The 20-year-old chose to have the Frenchman in his corner in North America, where he suffered his worst slump for some time. Their partnership finally ran its course, and Rune has rehired the services of Christensen, who worked with him since he was six.

"After much speculation and uncertainty in Holger Rune's camp his long-time trainer Lars Christensen will rejoin the as the sole coach of Rune. They have began working in Denmark and he will start travelling with Holger from Beijing."
