Roger Federer teased his fans with a few snips on Instagram showing himself working out in the gym as he gets ready for a comeback.
Federer has not played since last year's Wimbledon, where he was beaten in the quarterfinal by Poland's Hubert Hurkacz in straight sets. The Swiss ace underwent a third knee surgery in 18 months to get things sorted, and he promised to come back.
He has been forced to delay his return but shared a message of hope to all his fans and the tennis community, who are looking forward to watching him turn up in London's O2 Arena at the Laver Cup. He's also penciled in to play at the Swiss Indoors in Basel.
It's been a month since the 20-time Grand Slam champion adhered to a full training schedule, and Federer spoke to Caminada very recently about his potential return to the court in the near future, stating that he is waiting for the green light from his doctors.
"I can't even think that far. I'm waiting for the doctors' okay. I'm ready to give it my all again. I feel like a racehorse scratching its stall and wanting to race.
"In the summer I hope to be able to hit the ground running. I'm looking forward to coming home in the evening after the tough day of training and being completely exhausted."
Federer's decision to ensure that he recovers fully before picking up a racket again is also fuelled by his desire to enjoy a pain-free post-tennis life with his family. He admitted that he is content with what he has achieved in his illustrious career.
"I swore to myself that by the end of my career I wouldn't be completely broken. Later I would like to go skiing with the children and play football with my colleagues. That's why I'm doing rehab now - not just for tennis. Also for life after your career."
