Only a few weeks ago, Novak Djokovic sent a glimpse of hope with an emotional letter when he revealed that he's preparing for the 2022 US Open as if he was allowed to compete.

Now, it seems that the 21-time Grand Slam champion may in fact be allowed to enter the country and chase his 22nd Grand Slam title at the 2022 US Open. When giving an update on his preparation a few weeks ago, Novak Djokovic stated: "I am preparing as if I will be allowed to compete, while I await to hear if there is any room for me to travel to US. Fingers crossed!"

On Thursday, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), which is in charge of ensuring the health and safety of US citizens, has updated guidance that loosens restrictions on isolation and social distancing.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has not yet updated its travel advice, which currently states that all foreigners must be fully vaccinated before entering the US, although it does state on its website that this is being reviewed in light of the most recent update.

The statement from CDC reads: “This updated guidance is intended to apply to community settings. In the coming weeks, CDC will work to align stand-alone guidance documents, such as those for healthcare settings, congregate settings at higher risk of transmission, and travel, with today’s update.”

Despite the change not taking place in the rules that would affect Novak Djokovic, his hopes certainly increased as the travel restrictions should be also reviews and so only two weeks before the start of the fourth Grand Slam of the season, he may be given a green light to enter the country and compete.
