Novak Djokovic adds even more tournaments to his busy post-US Open schedule as he will compete also at the 2022 Astana Open in Nur-Sultan.
In 2022, the 21-time Grand Slam champion missed two out of four Grand Slam tournament and dropped to the seventh spot in the ATP Rankings. However, in the ATP Race, Novak Djokovic is ranked 15th and so it can happen that for the first time in five years, he won't finish a year in Top 10.
Ahead of the 2022 Laver Cup, Djokovic spoke about not playing the 2022 Australian Open and US Open and emphasized that he was aware of the consequences, when he said: "No, I don't have any regrets. I mean, I do feel sad that I wasn't able to play, but, you know, that was decision that I made. You know, I knew what the consequences will be, so I accepted them. That's it," the Serb said.
But one thing can't be denied and that's that with no points being awarded at the Wimbledon and Djokovic missing the other two out of three Grand Slam tournaments, he misses a lot of points. Now, he will play two events which were usually not in his schedule.
First, Novak Djokovic will compete at the 2022 Tel Aviv Open, where he will play also doubles alongside the only player he even lifted a doubles title with, Jonathan Erlich. After that, the Serbian will move to Kazakhstan where he will compete at the 2022 Astana Open in Nur-Sultan after receiving a wild-card for the tournament.
The 2022 Astana Open features a star-studded entry list when Daniil Medvedev, Carlos Alcaraz and Stefanos Tsitsipas will join the 21-time Grand Slam champion. Moreover, Andy Murray and Stan Wawrinka also received a wild-card for the event and so there is some high-quality tennis expected in Kazakhstan this year.
