Nick Kygrios made a winning return to tennis at this week's Stuttgart Open, competing in doubles.
Kyrgios has been out of action for exactly two months. It was his personal decision not to play the entire clay-court swing in Europe, including the French Open.
The Australian only played in one clay-court tournament this year, which was in Houston, Texas, shortly after competing in the Miami Open. After that, he returned back to Australia to be with his family.
Kyrgios proclaimed himself the best grass-court player in the world in the build-up to Wimbledon. Despite his absence from the clay season, he has been working hard behind the scenes for the grass-court swing, which is a pivotal moment in his season.
Testament to his dedication on the surface, Kyrgios signed up to play in singles and doubles. His doubles campaign will begin today when he plays Czech young gun Jiri Lehecka in the first round.
However, he has already played one match in doubles to try to acclimate to the conditions and test his fitness. His partner for the week is Alexander Bublik and the duo defeated Hans Hach and Philipp Oswald.
In the next round, the unorthodox pair will meet the winner of the match between Fabrice Martin/Andreas Mies and the home duo Daniel Altmaier/Oscar Otte.
After his first victory in two months, he posted a series of pictures on Instagram with a caption saying,"Travel all around the globe, doing what we want with no regrets."
Kyrgios had a great first half of the season, with his highlight being winning the Australian Open doubles title together with Thanasi Kokkinakis. He has since played just three tournaments, reaching the quarterfinals in Indian Wells, where he lost to Rafael Nadal in a close match.
In Miami, he was knocked out in the last 16, and at his only clay event in Houston, he lost to Reilly Opelka in the semis.
