Kyrgios Tells Becker He Became Successful 'Without Help Of Others' Amid 'Respect' Spat

Nick Kyrgios doesn't owe anybody anything, according to himself, as he dismissed Boris Becker's claims about owing his position to those who came before him.

For the past few days, Nick Kyrgios and Boris Becker have been trading blows on social media after initial comments by Kyrgios didn't sit well with Becker. To start, the Australian compared eras in an interview, claiming how today's players, to whom he belongs, are better than past legends.

One of the older players he mentioned was Becker, who would struggle in today's tennis per Kyrgios, which is likely true, but it's a very nuanced take that has the least amount to do with the talent of the legendary German.

Becker responded to that, after which Kyrgios responded to that, and Becker did once more. In the final response, the German argued that the older generations contributed to making tennis what it is today, allowing Kyrgios to basically not play an entire year and not worry about finances due to how lucrative the sport is.

Well, Kyrgios responded that he's been bringing millions of fans to the sport for years, making money for everyone. He also mentioned Break Point, which featured his Wimbledon run to the final prominently.

Bro what. I’ve been one of the FEW PLAYERS that have brought million more fans to the sport and have made more money for everyone. NETFLIX…. Don’t remember seeing Boris on there guy is ridiculous. I’ve made my career off the court without the help of the others.

It's a decent take from Kyrgios, as he indeed is and was a crowd magnet, but it's really hard to prove how much that contributed to other players' earnings. Either way, look out for more of these back-and-forths in the coming days. Neither seems keen on backing down.
