Iga Swiatek has always had a keen interest in finances, and that came in handy as she became one of the best players in the world.
Many things are happening in the background of a tennis player's career, especially when it comes to earnings. There is a whole world to discover, and Swiatek was interested in it early on.
Her interest wasn't just in tennis finances but more generally, which came in handy as she started to handle a lot of money. In a recent interview with PZU Grupa, Swiatek admitted that she handles her own finances by choice.
That might not be standard practice, but she always wanted to know how to do it, and it's been tricky at times, especially as she became one of the best players in the world.
I deal with it personally. If anyone could help me, it would be my dad, without a doubt. But from an early age I actually wanted to have more and more knowledge and be aware of everything that is happening, so I read every contract I sign. So I actually take care of everything.
There is some good advice there for everybody, and that's to read the contract fully and carefully. There are plenty of horror stories when it comes to that, so take the advice from Swiatek and read it yourself.
In the same interview in which she opened up about her criticism of the WTA, Swiatek talked about doing her taxes as well, which can be quite complicated at times.
And also when it comes to taxes, I had to learn a lot, because now I pay taxes in five countries and coordinating it all is certainly not easy. But I admit I like it because I could actually be an accountant, when I come to think of it. I like sitting in papers, adding and making tables in Excel, so this is not a problem for me.
