Nick Kyrgios will be a Grand Slam semi-finalist for the first time in his tennis career after he managed to beat Cristian Garin at the 2022 Wimbledon Championships.

Eight years after reaching his first Grand Slam quarter-final at Wimbledon, Kyrgios reached his maiden Grand Slam semi-final at the All England Club, which has become his happy ground.

In his third Grand Slam quarter-final, Kyrgios took on Cristian Garin, who defeated his compatriot, Alex de Minaur, in the previous round. Despite losing 0-2 in the fourth-round match, Garin managed to come back and he wanted to do the same also in the quarter-finals.

He had a perfect start to the match. Garin won the first nine points, and he led 2-0 and 15-0. But Kyrgios soon stopped his heroics. The Australian player broke back, and at 4-3, he led for the first time in the match.

Since then, he got to a point when he was behind in the match only one more time. At 4-4, Garin had two chances to break, but he couldn't use any. After Kyrgios held his serve, he broke in the following game, winning the first set 6-4 in only 38 minutes of play.

The second set also lasted 38 minutes, and despite having numerous breakpoints, the Chilean player couldn't break his opponent, and Kyrgios made it 2-0 in the match after winning the set 6-3.

The third set was the closest one, and Garin was the only player to have break points in that set. However, he couldn't use his three chances to break when leading 3-2, so the third set had to be decided in a tie-break.

The Chilean player was closing up on winning the tie-break when he led 5-3, but a series of four consecutive points guaranteed Kyrgios the win and also his first participation in the semi-final of a Grand Slam.
