Nick Kyrgios has been forced to pull out of his second-round match at the 2022 Mallorca Championships due to an abdominal injury, putting in doubt his participation at Wimbledon.

After going the distance but coming through to beat Laslo Djere in the first round of the competition, the Aussie was set to play Spain's Roberto Bautista Agut.

However, just a few hours before the second-round match-up, the man from Down Under announced he would not be going any further on the Balearic Island due to a niggling injury.

This is not the preparation that he would have wanted going into one of his favorite events on the tennis calendar, particularly when you consider his form so far.

The Australian talent had already reached the semi-final stage at both of the other grass-court tournaments, so building on that and perhaps going all the way would have been what he wanted.

Announcing pulling out of his match-up against "one of his mates," Kyrgios also raised doubts over his participation at the All England Club.

"I'm really sorry, I'm going to have to withdraw from tonight's match here in Mallorca. I have been playing a lot of great matches lately and unfortunately I woke up with a pain in my abs. I went to see the tournament doctor right away and he advised that I don't play tonight. I really value the Mallorca Championships but I will follow his advice as I don't want to risk Wimbledon next week."

Roberto Bautista Agut, who reached the semi-final of Wimbledon in 2019, now has a free pass to the third round of the Mallorca Championships, where he will appreciate the time off in what is a hectic period in the schedule.

As for Kyrgios, it's now an anxious wait to see whether he will be ready for the Wimbledon Championships, just around the corner. It is not a tournament he will want to miss, with him coming into it in red-hot form.
