Nick Kyrgios has declared himself the best grass-court player in the world as he prepares to challenge for the Wimbledon title in June and July.

Kyrgios told the Herald he felt at the top of his game when speaking at a basketball promotional event in Sydney. When asked who he thought was the top player in the world going into the Wimbledon Championships later this year, the 2022 Australian Open doubles champion declared himself as a favorite for the grass-court major.

"I mean, on the grass, I’d say me."

The Australian player also recently spoke about his 2022 Season, admitting that this year has been different for him, which could be seen in his results.

"Something about this year has just been different. I’ve played five or six events and I’ve gone pretty well in pretty much every one I’ve played and I’ve beaten a lot of the top players in the world this year."

Kyrgios called the 2022 season "a resurgence year" as he claimed that he enjoys proving that he can do things his way.

"I guess it’s more of a resurgence year, just going out there and showing people that I don’t have to go out there and play all the time, [that] I can still be at the top of the game. I’m just enjoying it and doing it my way."

However, despite having a great 2022 season, Kyrgios won't play at the 2022 Roland Garros. The Australian doesn't like the slow pace of the courts.

Fast courts suit him because they let him keep points shorter, which he prefers. It also strengthens his service, which is among the greatest in the world when it works.

He already withdrew from the tournament this year but assured his fans that he would return to the French capital in 2023, as his girlfriend, Costeen Hatzi, wants to visit the city.
