Former Wimbledon finalist Eugenie Bouchard was left in shock at the unbelievable comeback staged by Novak Djokovic to win his third Cincinnati Masters title.

Sunday's blockbuster final at the Cincinnati Masters rendered everything outside the tennis landscape trivial, as fans and tennis pros marveled at the breathtaking tennis played out by the world's top two players.

Djokovic fought back from a 5-7, 2-4 down and fend off a match point to win 5-7, 7-6, 7-6 in almost four hours of match play. Bouchard, like many tennis fans on social media, had written off the Serbian star when he was visibly perturbed for a set and a half of the final and wasn't moving fluidly on the court.

At one point, Bouchard feared Djokovic would retire from the match which would have been a massive disappointment. The Canadian later took to Instagram to share her bewilderment at Djokovic's unbelievable comeback that ended Alcaraz's resistance when he converted his fifth match point.

"I can’t believe he came back to win. He didn’t look too good in the 2nd, face was red, I thought he would retire. This is truly unbelievable. Pushed himself to human limits in sports."

Djokovic showered praise to his vanquished opponent Alcaraz, after serving his revenge for the Wimbledon finals defeat last month. The 36-year-old called it one of his toughest bouts on a tennis court and believes, in terms of intensity, it is comparable to the near six-hour epic against Rafael Nadal at the 2012 Australian Open.

"One of the toughest matches I've ever played in my life. Unbelievable from the beginning to the end. So many ups and downs, incredible points, heat strokes, coming back. Overall one of the most exciting matches I've ever been a part of. These are the moments I live for. I work for this."
