Nick Kyrgios has made a forthright confession about his career amidst injury and admitted he wants to stop playing tennis for good.
Kyrgios has been through emotional turmoil and even contemplated taking his own life a few years ago. Still, his physical well-being appears to have taken quite a beating this year, where he has spent the entire year on the sidelines, except for the one match he played in Stuttgart last season.
So far, there is a cloud of unpredictability about his comeback, and even the 28-year-old doesn't have a timeline. Kyrgios recently stated that he would need the "stars to align" when he spoke about his tennis return and confirmed his Australian Open absence next month.
In a thoroughly revealing interview with the Award-Winning Storyteller Jay Shetty, the Australian maverick admitted that he's been living through pain and is "exhausted" after undergoing three surgeries that have kept him out of the game for a considerable period.
"If it was up to me, I don’t really want to play anymore, to be honest. But I have to, almost. I have so much more to give. I’m exhausted. I’m tired. I’ve had three surgeries now. I’m only 28 years old. I always wanted to be able to have a family and not be in pain."
Even though he has "much more to give" on a tennis court, Kyrgios explains that his perspective on life has changed, and he wants to settle down and have a family. At the moment, he's been downbeat, having to wake up each morning with pain in his body.
Furthermore, Kyrgios explains that there is simply no limit to what a person can achieve, but how much he will achieve is always calculable. And amid unrealistic expectations, it is always difficult to please everybody. But he stated he is content with his life right now.
"When I get up, I can’t walk without pain. Even if I won Wimbledon, people would be like, 'Now do it again.’ That's the rat race of life. How much is enough? I'm very content with my life, I have more than enough to enjoy."
