'I Don't Have Any Thoughts This Is My Last Wimbledon': Djokovic Dismisses Retirement Talks

by Zachary Wimer

Novak Djokovic was asked about this 2024 Wimbledon Championships possibly being his final one, but he completely dismissed that, admitting that he wants to keep playing for much longer.

This Wimbledon experience might be labeled as a failure for the Serbian because he failed to win the trophy. He arrived on the back of knee surgery with a fast recovery, but he played to win the tournament, not to go home with the runner-up trophy.

He didn't play to see whether he could still play or make the semi-final or final. He played because he felt good enough to win the event. Until the final, that certainly seemed so, but in the final, the Serbian was outclassed by Carlos Alcaraz, who was better.

There is no shame in that, as Djokovic himself said after the match, that the Spaniard was the better player and deservedly won. One of the questions that snuck into his post-match press conference was the retirement question, but Djokovic didn't entertain it.

He said he would love to return to Wimbledon, and that he had no thoughts about this possibly being his final participation at SW19.

"I would to come back here. I don't have anything else in my thoughts right now, that this is my last Wimbledon. I wanna play, at least, whatever I don't know. I don't have any limitations in my mind. I still want to keep going and play as long as I feel I can play on this high level."

The 37-year-old has consistently said he wants to keep playing as long as he believes he can play at a high level, and this event certainly proved that he still can.

He may not be winning as much as he used to, entering August without a trophy for the first time in nearly two decades, but as long as he feels he can win, he will keep going, and fans will be happy to have him.
