Carlos Alcaraz recently suggested that he is not in the superstar bracket despite receiving constant comparisons to some of the most iconic names in the sport.
Alcaraz is a breath of fresh air that has charmed tennis fans with his extraordinary athletic ability on a tennis court, as well as his charisma. He has always played with a smile on his face and has seen his popularity soar to incredible levels.
He is already the third-most followed male tennis player on the social media platform Instagram (among active players) and has won two Grand Slams at the age of 20. Alcaraz is also the youngest ATP year-end No. 1 in history, achieving this landmark in 2022 while being only 19.
The young Spaniard's stock has already been placed in the same category as the likes of Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer, and Rafael Nadal, the triumvirate who have dominated men's tennis in a manner that has not been seen in previous eras.
Yet, the man himself has extinguished those comparisons, believing he is not on the same level. Alcaraz was quoted on MARCA following his second-round win at the Argentina Open, labeling the Big 3 as the stars and saying that he has a long way to go to match them.
"I don't consider myself a star, I consider myself a very good player. For me, the stars are Djokovic, Rafa and Federer, and some others out there. I have achieved great things, but I still have a long way to go to be one."— Alcaraz said as per MARCA
Alcaraz progressed into the semifinals in Buenos Aires after picking his second match win at this year's tournament, beating Andrea Vavassori of Italy 7-6, 6-1. The Murcia native has not lifted a trophy since Wimbledon last July, a drought stretching over six months. He will play the Chilean third seed, Nicolas Jarry.
