Patrick Mouratoglou has given his verdict on why Novak Djokovic has such a loyal legion of fans in his corner.

Speaking through a video on his social media account, Mouratoglou - who also had a stint coaching Holger Rune this season - believes that because Djokovic is vilified in some quarters of the tennis world and beyond, his fans support him even more fervently.

Djokovic's fans hate injustice. He is liked because he is criticized and unloved. A lot of people are tough on him and is very unfair.

Mouratoglou went on to say that his accomplishments in an unparalleled era of greatness mean that he has the edge in many people's eyes for being the greatest of all time, especially if the Serb were to end with the highest number of Grand Slam titles.

People also admire him because he has had to face the two GOATs and is in a position to beat their records to become the greatest himself. His fans hate injustice and they value his ability to overcome it.

The 22-time Grand Slam champion is in action at the ATP 250 Banja Luka Open this week. The tournament has replaced the Serbia Open that his brother had organised in previous years.

Djokovic will be looking to play himself into some form and fitness on the red clay of Europe as he continues his build-up to the French Open at the end of May.

Having not played in the US last month for reasons well-documented, the Serb will need match time under his belt in order to regain his full form and play himself into a winning rhythm.

However, he is also struggling with an elbow injury which played a part in his surprise loss to Lorenzo Musetti at the Monte-Carlo Masters last week.
