It was plain sailing for up-and-coming Carlos Alcaraz against Oscar Otte at Wimbledon, with the Spaniard explaining how he is just getting going on the grass.

The young Spaniard saw off the German in three comfortable sets (6-3, 6-1, 6-2), seeing him through to the third round of the year's third Grand Slam.

It was no mean feat for the youngster, who came up against an in-form Otte. However, his 37 winners and a mere 8 unforced errors were way above the level of his opponent, despite Otte not putting on a terrible display for his own standards.

For anyone who watched the encounter, it was clear that this was arguably one of Alcaraz's best performances on grass, with him purring nicely coming into the business end of the tournament.

This was certainly a sentiment 'Carlitos' shared himself, with the Spaniard appearing over the moon with his performance when asked post-match.

"I played unbelievable today. This was my best performance so far. I'm really happy with the level, and I will try to keep this level into the next round."

Dominating at Wimbledon is something we have seen from the likes of Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic, and it is with the latter to whom people are drawing comparisons.

Stylistically, people see similarities between him and the Serb, while mentally, he appears to take after compatriot Rafael Nadal.

At this stage of his career, it is very much about improving day by day, and that is exactly what he has admitted to working so far for him during his tenure on tour.

"I'm more comfortable to move on grass right now than in the first round, for example. Every training, every match that I play... I feel more comfortable, and hope in the next round [that I will] feel more comfortable. Every day that [passes], I feel more ready on grass."

If he continues along this line of form, it will not be long before we see a new Grand Slam champion, whether that be on SW19's grass or elsewhere. All around the tennis world there is a sense of a changing of the guard, with Alcaraz heading that up.
