John Isner finally broke the world record for the most aces hit. He did that during his third-round match at the 2022 Wimbledon Championships.
After his second-round win against Andy Murray at Wimbledon this year, Isner was only five aces away from breaking the world record that Ivo Karlovic held for quite some time already.
Although it's always nice to hold a world record, Isner admitted that he didn't really focus on the stat but focused on advancing to the next round at Wimbledon.
"It's not going to put me in the Hall of Fame or anything like that, because that's not me. But I will be the all-time leader. I'll keep playing, keep adding to my total. I could be up there for a long time."
"Ivo, I don't know if he's retired or what, but he hasn't played in a long time. I knew I would kind of eventually track him down. I will be probably thinking about it in my next match knowing it's either six or seven. Once I hit that number, whatever, not going to make an announcement or anything, but I'll know I have the record."
Now, Isner officially holds the record after hitting enough aces during the first few games of his match against Jannik Sinner.
Karlovic held the record for the most aces ever hit in professional tennis matches. The Croatian blasted 13,728 aces throughout the course of 694 ATP Tour matches that he played during his career.
Isner now surpassed this number in his 737th match during his third-round match at the 2022 Wimbledon. With the tall American serving dozens of aces per match, it's expected that he will further extend this record, out of reach of any challengers for the upcoming decade and more.
