'Embarrass Myself': De Minaur Plans To Avoid Playing Against Girlfriend At United Cup

by Zachary Wimer

Alex de Minaur is excited about playing for Australia at the United Cup, but he's not keen to play against his girlfriend, Katie Boulter, at the event.

De Minaur and Boulter are part of the same group at the United Cup, as Australia and Great Britain will play against each other. The event is coming up shortly, beginning on December 29th, with the Australia - Great Britain match actually kicking off the event.

De Minaur will play in singles, as will Boulter, but there is also the mixed doubles match. Boulter will likely play the mixed doubles match, but de Minaur is not particularly keen on playing himself. He mentioned Matthew Ebden as the doubles specialist, which is true, but it would be fun to see Boulter and De Minaur face each other.

After all, de Minaur confirmed that they spent Christmas together, and there was a bit of teasing ahead of the big matchup that could end up being crucial for both nations, considering how the format is set up.

I’m definitely not a doubles specialist. So it would definitely be Matty. I wouldn’t want to put myself out there and embarrass myself. It was a lot of fun (over Christmas with Katie). There was some chat here and there, giving each other a little bit of crap. We enjoyed it and it’s going be a very interesting experience.

De Minaur's first match of 2024 will be against Cameron Norrie, and he's excited about it. Norrie didn't have the best year last year, but he's a capable player, and they shared the court many times, and it was always a battle. They played doubles as well, so they know each other well.

He’s a great competitor. We always have tough battles. He got me last year to start off the year, so hopefully I can get my revenge.
