Djokovic Unsure About Upcoming Schedule After Shocking Indian Wells Loss

by Zachary Wimer

Novak Djokovic suffered a shocking loss at the 2024 Indian Wells Open, which left him unsure about his upcoming schedule.

This year hasn't been the best for the Serbian player, who has suffered some pretty upsetting losses. The Australian Open loss to Jannik Sinner was surprising but not shocking.

Given how the two played at that event, there was a decent chance that the Italian would beat his much older rival. On the other hand, almost nobody really thought Luca Nardi could beat Djokovic at the Indian Wells Open, but he did.

It was a hugely surprising loss, which left the 36-year-old quite stunned both during and after the match. Speaking to the media after the match, Djokovic admitted that he was still quite hot-headed, unable to confirm whether he would compete at the 2024 Miami Open.

"Yeah, for the moment, Miami is there, so let's see. Let's see, obviously 10 minutes ago I was on the court, so I'm still hot-headed a bit. I need to take a day or two and then see what I want to do next."

Djokovic on his upcoming schedule

Djokovic didn't confirm his participation at the ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Miami, but he did hint that it would likely be his next destination. This makes sense because his stay in Indian Wells was cut short.

Should he play, he'll have plenty of time to fly to Miami and prepare for the event there. There is a chance, though, that he skips over that event and travels immediately to Europe to better prepare for the clay season.

There is only a week between the Miami Open and the Monte-Carlo Masters, which is a shorter period than most players would like to have to transition between hard and clay courts.

Either scenario is possible, but it's tough to say which is more likely at the moment, as Djokovic probably also doesn't know. What's more concerning for the Serbian is his lack of wins this year.
