Djokovic Believes 'Every Grand Slam is Worth Like Five' Compared to Previous Years

Novak Djokovic said his recent victory at Roland Garros felt like one of the toughest of his career, which made the win even more gratifying.

Djokovic stunned Casper Ruud with a straight-sets victory in the Roland Garros final and he also reclaimed the number one spot in the official ATP world rankings. In addition, the Serbian became the first-ever men's player to secure 23 career Grand Slams after he surpassed Rafael Nadal - who remains on 22 titles.

It was a whirlwind week for Djokovic, who also lifted the Australian Open in January 2023. When reflecting on his second Grand Slam win of the season, the 36-year-old said the recent victories feel even sweeter with age and he also has no intention to slow down any time soon.

“At this point in my career, every Slam title is worth like five Slams were ten years ago, I won’t stop now, as long as I am feeling like this physically and mentally.”

Moreover, Djokovic shared the difficulty of winning at Roland Garros compared to the other Grand Slam venues. Throughout his career, the French Open and US Open are Djokovic's least decorated majors, as he was won both three times compared to ten Australian Open titles and seven Wimbledon wins.

As a result, the Serbian player felt this Roland Garros win, in particular, represented the challenge of the competition and his own toughness to succeed.

“Seeing this trophy here, that also, for me, symbolises a great battle that I had with myself mostly, of course with all the great players in Roland Garros that is one of the four greatest tournaments, but for me by far the toughest one of the four to win,”

“So it’s symbolic in a way that I won my historic 23rd here in Roland Garros, makes it even sweeter and greater knowing what it takes to win Roland Garros for me. It’s not to take anything away from of course the winning of any other Slam, but just Roland Garros is a highest mountain to climb for me, I think, in my career. That’s why it’s even more satisfying.”
