Novak Djokovic and Nick Kyrgios seem to be taking their bromance to the next level as they have seemingly agreed to a dinner in New York.
Djokovic and Kyrgios are not friends you’d ever thought you’d see because it didn’t start that way. During the peak days of COVID-19, Kyrgios famously called out Djokovic for his involvement in the ill-fated Adria Tour.
Despite an ongoing global pandemic, the Serbian player put together some exhibition events in his native Balkans, inviting the likes of Alexander Zverev, Dominic Thiem, and others to play some tennis.
It would prove a horrible idea after a few players tested positive, which was followed by the whole tournament being canceled. Their relationship only improved when Kyrgios became one of the first players to publicly defend Djokovic during the Australian Open deportation saga.
Fast forward to a couple of months after that, and they stood against each other in the Wimbledon final. Djokovic outplayed Kyrgios in four sets to win that trophy, but it seems like their bromance is blossoming.
After Djokovic posted a photo of himself with the Wimbledon trophy on social media, Kyrgios quickly asked where his dinner was. They seemingly agreed to grab dinner after their final, but it might not happen until New York and the US Open later this year.
Djokovic's response alluded to that, as apparently, he couldn’t find a free table in such a short turnaround.
"Sorry, mate. I called all the restaurants in London on Sunday night and there was no tables available. Dinner is on me in New York City."
However, at the moment, Djokovic can't enter the United States legally because he is not vaccinated. As of now, the county requires foreign nationals to have proof of vaccination upon entry, and they seem unlikely to change that policy this year.
Djokovic himself confirmed he would not get vaccinated, so his comment certainly made fans speculate about his possible involvement in the last major of the season.
