Alexander Zverev is working on his comeback. While the hope is for him to return at the US Open, it is unclear whether he will be able to.

Zverev recently posted a video of himself doing strength and conditioning exercises in the gym to work on the serious ankle injury he picked up at the French Open.

In said video, the German is seen to be putting his full weight on the affected ankle, indicating that his recovery process is going swimmingly well.

This is also how several people close to the player himself have confirmed the recovery to be going, including a spokesperson.

In a recent update about his recovery, said spokesperson for the German number one confirmed that the goal is still to be ready for the US Open.

"Sascha is recovering well and is still hoping that he can be ready for the US Open. However, it is still too early to tell if he will be able to compete there or not."

Zverev himself admitted earlier that he would not be rushing to get back as soon as possible, opting to fully recover first and return only when he can seriously challenge for trophies. The Spokesperson further commented:

“Davis Cup in Hamburg in September seems more realistic but we keep our fingers crossed that he will be ready earlier. Therefore, he should be able to play a few events before Tokyo”.

With the Davis Cup coming just a few weeks after the Grand Slam in New York, those days could prove vital for the German in his preparation to grace the courts once more.

In terms of confirmed outings for Zverev, he has signed up for the Japan Open in Tokyo at the end of September. So it is not out of the question that we may see the German back just a couple of weeks before to compete for his country.
