Casper Ruud has spent nearly two years entrenched in the Top 10 of the ATP rankings and he kicks off his 100th consecutive week among the world's elite this week.
Once a ball boy in his home city in Oslo, Ruud's rise to the world's Top 10 first happened in the summer of 2021, shortly after the conclusion of the US Open that year. He has since maintained his presence there, and notches his 100th week today, establishing himself as one of the premier athletes on the ATP Tour.
Perhaps what makes this achievement even more special, is Ruud has spent 53 out of the 100 weeks ranked in the Top 5, which is the position he currently occupies in the latest ATP rankings. Ruud is in fine company, along with Djokovic (243 weeks since 2018) and Tsitsipas (210 weeks since 2019) among the top three with the longest active streak in the Top 10.
Ruud is Norway's most successful ATP player and is a yardstick for his contemporaries when it comes to consistency. Ruud made his ATP Tour debut in 2016 at the age of 17. After becoming one of the youngest players to win an ATP Challenger tournament in their debut in Sevilla, he graduated for the main tour just a few weeks later.
Ruud has since gone on to achieve a first in many stats for his country. He became the first Norwegian male player to win an ATP title in 2020 when he won the Buenos Aires 250. Nine more ATP titles followed in the next three years since that success.
Ruud continues to make waves at Grand Slam level too. He has reached three Grand Slam finals in the past 15 months, twice at the French Open and once at the US Open. It's also another landmark achievement for the Scandinavian nation.
The 10-time ATP titlist is currently preparing for main draw action in Canada and could play his first match in Toronto on Wednesday against either Jiri Lehecka or a qualifier.
