Carlos Alcaraz vs Novak Djokovic: 2024 Wimbledon - Preview & Prediction

| by Zachary Wimer

Carlos Alcaraz will face Novak Djokovic in the 2024 Wimbledon Championships final, and if you're wondering why that sounds familiar, it's because they met in the final also last year.

Repeated finals in back-to-back years at Wimbledon don't happen often, but fans at SW19 have gotten used to it in the past two decades, as the Big Three dominated most Grand Slams.

One Big Three member is still around, and it's Djokovic, who stood in last year's Wimbledon final. Alcaraz bested him then and he's going to try and do that again this year.

He secured the final by beating Daniil Medvedev in four sets while the Serbian secured his place by beating Lorenzo Musetti in three sets.

Head-to-head:

The two have played a few times already in ATP Tour-level matches, and most of those matches were really big. Djokovic still leads the H2H 3-2, but last year's Wimbledon final went Alcaraz's way.

It almost didn't, as the 37-year-old started well, winning the opening set, and was very close to breaking in the fifth set, but some heroics by the Spaniard annulled all of that.

This year's final is different in many ways because the seven-time champion has been dealing with a knee issue while Alcaraz hasn't played as well as he did last year. Stylistically, it's a matchup that could go either way.

Alcaraz's best gives Djokovic tremendous problems, and it's no different on the grass, with the lower bounce. The serve will be a major weapon for the 24-time major winner, as he needs to serve well to give himself as many free points as possible. He'll find it troublesome to overcome Alcaraz in the rallies if the Spaniard brings his best.

Novak Djokovic Carlos Alcaraz
3 H2H 2
2 Rank 3
37 Age 21
23-6 2024 W/L 32-6
1110-219 Career W/L 187-49

Prediction:

It's a matchup on Alcaraz's racket in these conditions. If he brings his best, he'll win, but if he plays around too much like he did in some matches this year, he can lose.

Prediction: Carlos Alcaraz to win in four sets.
