'Bunch Of Clowns': Williams' Former Coach Responds To Rumours About Coaching Rune

'Bunch Of Clowns': Williams' Former Coach Responds To Rumours About Coaching Rune

by Jordan Reynolds

Serena Williams' former coach, Rennae Stubbs, has stated that she is not coaching Holger Rune and angrily called out a social media post that implied this.

Rune is one of the best young talents in tennis. His future in the sport is bright, but he has had a turbulent start to the season on court, losing in the second round of the Australian Open, and off-court with his coaching team.

The Dane had begun the season with a star-studded team of six-time Grand Slam champion Boris Becker and long-time coach of Roger Federer, Severin Luthi. However, Luthi left Rune's team after less than two months.

This was followed by Becker also leaving Rune's camp less than a week ago. Becker said the reason was not being able to give the 20-year-old the time he wanted, although Mark Petchey believes it is a cover for another underlying reason.

Those events have led to speculation about who could take the place of Becker and Luthi in Rune's team. Stubbs sent a joking tweet on the social media platform X, saying she had some time up her sleeve.

However, Stubbs then saw a post on X from Firstsportz, with a headline that made it seem like a partnership with Rune was possible. This irritated the Australian, and she made her feelings clear in two posts on the platform.

"I have been sent this by MANY people asking "is this true?"  No it's not!  I don't know who put this out but you're a bunch of (clown emoji) to do this with zero proof. My god!"

Her second post specifically gave her annoyance at the misleading use of "revealed" in the Firstsportz post.

"No one sees the stupid question mark after the headline saying REVEALED! Rune to replace Becker with Stubbs & and my photo being the whole tweet."

Interestingly, Rune then responded by saying that he also had many people asking him about the possibility of Stubbs coaching him.

"Yes many confronted me too about this. Let them talk. Much too few female coaches on tour though."
