Boris Becker Steps Down As Holger Rune's Coach With Immediate Effect

Boris Becker announced that he will be no longer coaching Holger Rune, stepping down as his coach.

In recent months, the young Dane managed to put together quite a legendary coaching team. Last year, he appointed Boris Becker, who is a legendary player and also former coach of Novak Djokovic.

And late last year, he started working together also with Severin Luthi, Roger Federer's former coach. However, he split with Luthi after only 41 days, and despite agreeing to work together also for the 2024 season, he won't be working with Becker either.

Already at the start of the new season, it seemed that the German coach was not available enough, and that seems to be also reason for their split, as Becker announced it on social media.

The 56-year-old informed that he would be stepping down as Rune's coach with immediate effect, ending their partnership, which started only last year. As a reason for their split, the German named the lack of availability.

"I would like to inform you that I will step down as the head coach of Holger Rune with immediate effect. We started this partnership with the initial goal to reach the ATP Finals end of last year but moving forward I realised that in order for this to be successful, I would need to be available for Holger much more than I can."

Becker named it "professional and private responsibilities" that keep him away from giving the Danish player necessary time as his coach.

"Due to professional and private responsibilities, I can’t give Holger what he needs now. I wish him only the very best and I’m always going to be his n.1 fan. I truly appreciated this journey together."

It's been a rather interesting journey for Rune, but also a very short one, as he went from having two former coaches of two of the most legendary players in the game, to being technically left without a coach.
