Matteo Berrettini is experiencing the toughest period of his career but he's dealing well with it.
The Italian is struggling with injuries as another forced him out of the upcoming Madrid Open, but he has to deal also with other things off-court. As any other fellow ATP pro, Berrettini has also romantic life and so he has a partner.
In the past, it was fellow tennis pro, Ajla Tomljanovic, and back then, their relationship was talked about in superlatives, with many finding positives about the two being together. Now, the Italian dates Melissa Satta and for an unknown reason, the perspective of fans shifted dramatically.
Over the past few weeks, Berrettini had to talk about his relationship multiple times and even Satta opened up about the hate that she receives on social media. Some people are making life difficult for these two and Berrettini talked about it in a recent interview with Style Corriere.
"Considering a relationship as a distraction from the career is disrespectful. It would be like saying that a journalist writes worse articles because he has a wife and children: it doesn't make sense, does it?"
When talking about his relationship, Berrettini used a metaphor to explain his point of view better, and it all makes sense. In the same interview, the Italian also talked about how his body shaped throughout the years to become the 'hammer' that he now is on the ATP Tour.
"When I look at my photographs from ten years ago, I really see myself as a child. I was very thin, long arms and all bones... Only from the age of 19 I started to put on muscle and in a short time I gained 10-15 kilos of muscle mass."
