Alcaraz Humbly Concedes 'Best Player' Position To Sinner Despite Wimbledon Win

Carlos Alcaraz might have won Wimbledon and Roland Garros but the Spaniard still considers Jannik Sinner as the player to beat on the ATP Tour.

The Italian youngster hasn't really had the type of stretch he had hoped to have at Roland Garros and Wimbledon. He was amazing at both events but didn't make the final in either, and after becoming the World No. 1, finals are probably what he expects, and trophies are what he is looking for.

In that sense, it wasn't that successful stretch, but Sinner is still world number one because of his consistency. That consistency is something Alcaraz highlighted when he was asked about it following the 2024 Wimbledon Championships final.

In a conversation with Spanish media, the Spaniard conceded that Sinner deserved number one in how he played this year.

"For me personally Sinner is the most consistent player. He has won a Grand Slam. He has reached, except in this tournament, the semifinals in all the ones he has played in."

Alcaraz on Sinner beaing ahead

"He deserves to be in that position still. I have won big tournaments, let's hope that continues and we will see at the end of the year who is higher."

The battle for the number one spot will certainly heat up in the coming weeks, as the US Open stretch will be hugely important. Sinner has had an amazing finish to the year, so there are plenty of points to be defended for him, much more than Alcaraz.

The US Open will obviously be crucial, as there are a lot of points to be won. Sinner might have a slight advantage on the court at Flushing Meadows due to his recent play on hard courts.

For now, the Italian leads, and Alcaraz accepts that, but in recent weeks, the Spaniard clearly showed a higher level of tennis.
