Nick Kyrgios claimed the Atlanta Open crown back in 2016 and this year he will try to replicate the form which saw him get to the Wimbledon final.
It may seem like yesterday, but it was a whole six years ago that Australian Nick Kyrgios stopped a big-serving John Isner claim what would have been the American's fourth consecutive title at the Georgia tournament.
Memories of that glorious day (for Kyrgios) still live long in the memory and as the seventh seed for this year's edition, the man from Down Under will be giving his all to replicate that result.
Coming off some great recent form, seeing him reach his maiden Grand Slam singles final at Wimbledon, the Australian will be hoping to continue on his cloud nine.
With qualifier Peter Gojowczyk named as his opponent for the first-round, he would like to think this would give him the best chance of reaching a potential second-round match-up with his go-to doubles partner and good friend Thanasi Kokkinakis.
Every time that Kyrgios steps onto the court he is guaranteed to entertain, and this would be true more than ever against Kokkinakis. Ahead of the tournament, Kyrgios spoke about the fans in the American city and how he is looking forward to his week there:
"Every time I come back to Atlanta, I know the fans are very interactive. I love the people, I love the setup. And I'm just super excited, every time I come back it feels like home. And having that success, winning the tournament before, you always feel like, you're confident and no matter who's in your way, you always feel like you have a good chance."
Going on to talk more about his recent form, he mentioned the higher stakes that there are now thanks to that stellar run in SW19:
"After my Wimbledon campaign, everyone is pretty excited to see what tennis I can bring and hopefully this week I can excite the fans. I'm sure everyone in the draw is capable of having a great week. It's just great preparation for the US swing."
