Iga Swiatek recently participated in and helped to organize a charity match in aid of Ukraine, and Andriy Shevchenko praised the pole for her efforts.

The world No. 1 has generated much attention this year with her outstanding level, including a 37-match winning streak that was finally ended at this year's Wimbledon Championships by Alize Cornet.

Swiatek is also a passionate supporter of Ukraine since the country was illegally invaded by Russia in February of this year, a conflict that continues and shows no signs of stopping anytime soon.

An example of the 21-year-old's support for Ukraine is her wearing ribbons in the colors of the Ukrainian flag on her hat during matches, something that Ukrainian players and fans appreciate.

However, the charity match Swiatek helped organize in Krakow helped the Ukrainian cause even more. The event raised $500,000, which was distributed to three non-profits working in the country

Swiatek played Agnieszka Radwanska in a singles match and a doubles contest involving the former Ukrainian player Sergiy Stakhovsky. The crowd thoroughly enjoyed the occasion and were treated to some great tennis.

Former Ukrainian footballer Andriy Shevchenko was grateful to Swiatek for standing up for his country. He also thanked fellow football star Robert Lewandowski, another notable supporter of Ukraine, and the Polish people collectively for their kindness.

"I want to thank you Polish people for being very kind to my country to host us here to provide for all our needs. Also, I want to thank Iga Swiatek and Robert Lewandowski for taking a big part in the achievement to help my country to raise funds and be supportive against the war in Ukraine. She is so young – only 21 – and she is already doing so much"

Swiatek's attention will now turn to the North American hard court season and attempting to win her first hard court Grand Slam at the US Open.
