The 2024 Cordoba Open will herald the start of this year's South American Golden Swing, and the draw for the tournament has been released.
Much of the focus at this time of the season tends to be on the ATP's undercard as the elite of men's tennis takes a rest following the conclusion of this year's Australian Open. The Cordoba Open will allow players to win prize money, points, and an ATP title.
Running from February 5th to 11th, this ATP 250 tournament is the first of four events staged in Latin America clay courts for February. Historically, the Cordoba Open is one of the tournaments that usually does not follow the script.
So even the top four seeds at the event who have a bye in the first round are not immune to upsets. The quartet of Francisco Cerundolo, Sebastian Baez, Tomas Martin Etcheverry, and Sebastian Ofner will start their campaign in the second round.
Cerundolo, who is the top seed, will await the winner of the match between Jaume Munar and Daniel Elahi Galan. The older Cerundolo may play his younger brother, Juan Manuel Cerundolo, in the quarterfinals.
But Juan Manuel (2021 champion) will need to beat a qualifier in his opening match and potentially take down Roberto Carballes Baena to book that showdown. Elsewhere, Etcheverry has a tough draw, with the likelihood of playing 2020 champion Cristian Garin in the second round.
But the Chilean must beat Spain's Bernabe Zapata Miralles in his opener. Daniel Altmaier, one of two Germans in the main draw, will play home player Federico Coria. The winner will face either Albert Ramos Vinolas or Pedro Cachin.
In the bottom half, defending champion Baez will watch the match between Hugo Dellien and Thiago Seyboth Wild because that's where he will know whom he will face to start his title defense.
Meanwhile, Ofner is projected to meet Baez in the semis. The Austrian will play either a qualifier or Tomas Barrios Vera to start his adventure in South America. Be sure to check the complete draw for the 2024 Cordoba Open below.
