The 2024 Chengdu Open will be the sixth edition of this ATP 250 tournament, and the entry list for the event has been released.
The Sichuan International Tennis Center hosts the Chengdu Open, and it's part of the very popular Asian hard-court swing, with many tennis tournaments in China, like the new Hangzhou Open, which will run alongside the Chengdu Open.
After that, players can also compete at the ATP 500 tournament in Beijing, the China Open, as well as the Shanghai Masters. That's why some choose to arrive early and acclimatize to the conditions in China.
Unfortunately for the event organizers and fans, the popular Laver Cup runs at the time the Chengdu Open is held, as the popular team exhibition is played from September 20th to 22nd, while the tournament in China is held from September 18th to 24th.
That took away some of the star power from the entry list, especially the defending champion. Alexander Zverev won the title in Chengdu last year, but since the Laver Cup is held in his home country, Germany, he didn't want to miss it.
Still, there will be plenty of exciting players competing at the sixth edition of this tournament that was first held in 2016, but missed three years between 2020 and 2022 because of COVID-19.
Fans can also be happy about the fact that there will be a new champion crowned, as none of the previous five champions, Karen Khachanov, Denis Istomin, Bernard Tomic, Pablo Carreno Busta, and Zverev, won't compete at the event, unless they accept a late wild card.
Headlining the entry list is Hubert Hurkacz, who should be the highest-ranked player at the tournament, but that won't matter much, as he will be facing a lot of competition in a fight for the title.
Lorenzo Musetti will certainly want to add one to his collection, and he will have a great chance to do so at the 2024 Chengdu Open, with his compatriots Lorenzo Sonego and Fabio Fognini joining him on the entry list.
Nicolas Jarry and Alexander Bublik are players who can use their serve really effectively, and they will try to utilize it on the hard courts in Chengdu, as they are also part of the entry list.
The likes of Jordan Thompson, Nuno Borges, and Adrian Mannarino are set to compete at this ATP 250 tournament as well. If there is one player that fans won't want to miss, it's certainly Gael Monfils, who always delivers a show on the tennis court.
The likes of Pedro Martinez, Marcos Giron, Miomir Kecmanovic, and Roman Safiullin only add to the excitement and possible first-time champion in Chengdu. The full entry list for the tournament can be viewed below.
