The 2022 Lyon Open is one of five events contested in France, and it will take place from May 15th to May 21st. It is the final event before the season's second Grand Slam, Roland Garros, and offers nice prize money.

The Lyon Open was held on a hard court from 1987 until 2009, however it was resurrected in 2017 as a clay-court tournament. Since then, four winners have been crowned in Lyon, the first of whom will compete in the 2022 Lyon Open and fight for his share of the prize money.

In 2021, Stefanos Tsitsipas won the Lyon Open, however no player from the Top 10 of the ATP Rankings will compete in 2022, with Cameron Norrie, ranked eleventh, being the highest-ranked player who will compete.

Benoit Paire, Dominic Thiem, and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, the first clay champion in Lyon, are the other three champions in Lyon. And it will be a small farewell for Tsonga in Lyon, as it will be his second-to-last tournament before retiring.

Despite the absence of any players from the Top 10, the tournament will feature a number of intriguing names, including Pablo Carreno Busta, Gael Monfils, Alex de Minaur, Karen Khachanov, and Aslan Karatsev.
