'If I Was Taking Similar Things I'd Have About 5 Slams': Kyrgios Takes Sly Dig At Halep

When tennis serves up hot news, Nick Kyrgios will invariably be at the front of the queue looking to fill up his plate.

And the Australian maverick made himself heard in the wake of Simona Halep's earth-shattering news she would be suspended from Tour for up to four years for doping. Kyrgios responded to Maria Sakkari's thoughts about the complexities of anti-doping procedures, insinuating Halep violated regulations.

Sakkari admitted that she is always conscious of the supplements she ingests, but questioned the integrity of the ITF's systems when it comes to doping tests. The Greek went further and explained the complex interface of the whereabouts app that tennis players use to communicate with anti-doping officials to schedule doping tests.

Sakkari highlighted the flaws of the mobile app and called for tennis authorities to make significant improvements for a more effective user experience. Tennis players who miss three out-of-competition tests within a 12-month period are deemed in breach of anti-doping rules.

Kyrgios, however, felt that as long tennis players do not flout the stipulated regulations - in this case avoiding prohibited foods and substances - it is 'not hard', highlighting his own experience of taking carbonated drinks and bananas, contrary to what Sakkari was saying.

"Ehhhh not really lol, I run on bananas and coke cola in 5 set battles. And my record in them speaks for itself. Maybe players should just stop taking shady sh*t look yourself in the mirror at the end of the day and say yep I did it right. Not hard."

One fan tried to draw the ire of Kyrgios, challenging him to boast about his Grand Slam record and the big titles won during his career. Kyrgios supported his claims, saying that he would have won the lot had he taken banned substances.

"I’d imagine if I was taking similar things to be banned for 4 years I’d have about 5 slams. Potato."
