Gael Monfils and Elina Svitolina shared very exciting news, as the two are expecting their first child.

Svitolina and her husband of nearly a year announced on Sunday that they are expecting their first child, a baby girl, in October. The two married in July of last year and have since become one of tennis' most well-known couples.

The news may be a relief for the Ukrainian, who has been dealing with sadness and anxiety since her homeland was invaded by Russia in late February.

It will now mark another stage of their lives, as both are still professionals competing on the ATP and WTA Tours, but at the same time, they will both become parents, who will want to spend as much time together as possible, as a growing family.

For Svitolina, it may be a positive change, as she won't have to worry about travelling around the world for a few weeks, something that has been quite challenging for her, given the current state of her country.

The two have shared the news on their joint Instagram account, sharing a picture and announcing that they are expecting a baby girl.

"With a heart full of love and happiness, we are delighted to announce that we are expecting a baby girl in October."

Friends and colleagues from both Tours were very excited by the news, as many of them commented under the picture, congratulating the soon-to-be parents.

While for Svitolina, this means an extended period away from the tennis courts, Monfils will certainly now dedicate more time to his wife, as he didn't compete at the 2022 Italian Open in Rome, which ran from May 8th until 15th.

Most recently, the Frenchman played at the 2022 Madrid Open, where he lost to Serbia's Novak Djokovic in his second match at the event. On the other hand, Svitolina's most recent appearance came at the 2022 Miami Open, losing to Great Britain's Heather Watson in three sets.
