Ashleigh Barty confirmed that she won't be joining the mothers on the WTA Tour as she has no plans to return to the sport.
The Australian retired from tennis suddenly in 2022, leaving many sad about her leaving the sport. Some of those closest to her weren't particularly shocked by the fact that she left tennis, but it was still a pretty big loss for the sport overall.
She was number one at the time and just won the Australian Open. Fast forward to now, the Australian is now a mother and is enjoying life away from the court.
She works with her foundation and doesn't even think about tennis. Returning to the sport has been shut down multiple times since she retired, and she confirmed it once more in a recent talk with the West Australian. She does miss parts of it, but not enough to come back.
"I miss parts of it, but mostly I miss seeing my mates. I miss seeing the girls that I've built such a relationship with over so many years, but a lot of my best mates have also retired now and they're kind of moving on to their next chapters."
Motherhood has been interesting for Barty as it's something she has always wanted to do, and she's excited about it. She wants to be at home and raise her son, which wouldn't be possible if she was out there competing on the court.
"We'll still get out there and hit occasionally if anyone asks or any of my mates ask. But no, I'm enjoying what I'm doing now. There's nothing keeping me away. It's not like I'm doing things to keep myself away from the court. I want be able to be there to raise Hayden and I want to be able to enjoy that."
"That's what I want to do, plain and simple. That's where my priorities lie now. I absolutely love being mum. There's nothing else that I prefer to do."
