Former U.S. President Barrack Obama paid to tribute to Coco Gauff, who won a maiden Grand Slam title at the 2023 US Open.

The 19-year-old Gauff came from a set down to beat WTA's new No. 1 as of Monday, Aryna Sabalenka, in three sets. She picked her very first major title in front of jam-packed Arthur Ashe Stadium, a moment that Gauff will cherish for the rest of her life.

Gauff's win was the first time an American woman won the US Open since 2017, and she also became the first teenage champion at the event since Serena Williams won it in 1999. Gauff is projected to rise to a new career-high ranking of No. 3 on Monday.

In the aftermath of victory, the new US Open champion received an outpouring of praise from all corners of the world. Leading the tributes was Barrack Obama, who was in attendance on the opening day of the tournament and watched Gauff firsthand plot this Cinderella story by beating Germany's Laura Siegemund.

"Congratulations to US Open champion, Coco Gauff! We couldn’t be prouder of you on and off the court - and we know the best is yet to come."
