WATCH: 'Pirate': Gauff Implements Interesting Practice Method With Eyepatch

| by Zachary Wimer

Coco Gauff has been preparing for the new season for weeks now, and she employed a rather interesting method recently.

The American had a tremendous 2023 campaign mostly due to the second half of the year. She's been quite impressive during the US Open run which concluded with winning her maiden Grand Slam event.

She then couldn't win another title at the end of the season, losing at the WTA Finals in Cancun, but began her offseason quite early to get ready for 2024.

The upcoming season will be a really huge one for the American who will hope to improve as a player even more and win more trophies. Preparations have already begun and have been going on for a few weeks, which is good.

In one of the most recent practice sessions, Gauff employed a new training tactic that went viral on social media because it's quite something to see.

A video of Gauff practicing showed the American player with an eyepatch, which is quite interesting. Hand-eye coordination is crucial in tennis, and perhaps this is some exercise to help improve that.

Maybe it's to improve periphery vision, but she's not the only player implementing interesting tactics in practice, as recently, Iga Swiatek was seen wearing a mouth tape.

The American's video did have a caption that simply said pirate, joking about the eyepatch. Gauff is working hard towards next season, so let's see what happens when she touches down in Australia.

She had a really strong start Down Under last year, winning a trophy in the first week of the season, but then struggled to really follow that up with meaningful tennis. Perhaps this year will finally see her go on a deep run at the Australian major, something she is favored to do by many experts and analytics.
