Coco Gauff's dexterity took her to a four-walled court to try and play squash for the first time.
19-year-old Gauff hails from a sporting family. Her father, Corey, played basketball while in college, while her mother, Candi, was a track and field athlete. It's not a coincidence that young Coco picked a tennis racket at the age of six to fulfill her parents' wishes.
Sports runs within the Gauff family. Very recently the 19-year-old was spotted cheering her younger brother Cameron in a 9U football game. Coco Gauff has risen to become one of the biggest WTA stars of her generation and is also one of the most marketable young athletes.
Gauff is coming off a fabulous season on the women's tour, having won four singles titles. She triumphed at 500, 1000, and Grand Slam level for the first time during a scintillating run at this year's US swing and ended the season at a career-best ranking of World No. 3 and USA's top-ranked woman.
Gauff's success translated to doubles too where she won two titles together with compatriot Jessica Pegula and qualified for the WTA Finals for the second year in a row. Both of them were co-ranked as World No. 1 in doubles at some point this season.
After a short and sweet vacation time, Gauff appears ready to get the ball rolling for the 2024 season, trading her time on the squash court and looking energetic as she detailed her novice appearance on her Instagram stories.
"@kineticracquet new sport every week. Tennis is still the best racquet sport though."
The American also reacted to the video of herself playing squash, explaining it was only her second time actually playing the sport.
"Haha only my 2nd time playing. My first time was over a year ago lollll. I have zero clue what i’m doing."
Gauff will be determined to keep up her electric rise next season and is tipped to add to her Grand Slam trophy cabinet and become World No. 1.
Both targets will rank so highly on her wishlist. In August, she confirmed that she would play the WTA 250 in Auckland at the start of 2024, a tournament she won this season.
