Before the Keys-Azarenka match, a hilarious situation occurred that made Madison Keys burst out laughing.
Conflicts between tennis players and umpires frequently make the news but there is no need to question who was right in this news story involving a player and umpire. There was no clashing this time but only a few humorous jokes spoken.
As umpire Marija Cicak was giving the players the usual breakdown before the match Azarenka threw in a teasing comment: "I saw your mistake yesterday" leaving Keys in tears. The mistake she was referring to was in a match between Belinda Bencic and Sloane Stephens when Cicak awarded point to the Swiss player after a challenge.
As Keys was struggling to hold back the laughter Cicak played along responding: "Thank you, that's a nice way to start. I take that. We all make mistakes."
It ended up being a brilliant match with Victoria Azarenka winning in three sets.
