Shocking and distressing footage has emerged of a father brutally assaulting his daughter on a tennis court.
Most professional players choose not to work with family members because of the problematic dynamic it can create if things go wrong and the potential blurring of lines between being a family member and a coach.
However, some players do choose to work with family, possibly because they have become accustomed to it since starting in the sport and fear that change could make things worse.
Stefanos Tsitsipas is a high-profile example of a player working with their father. The pair have enjoyed considerable success together, but some feel he could go to another level by leaving his father.
2020 Australian Open champion Sofia Kenin is also coached by her father. He briefly left her team in 2021 but returned for the 2022 season. Kenin endured a challenging 2022 and chose to end her season early.
Rafael Nadal's partnership with his uncle Toni might be the most successful case of a family member working with a player. He coached Rafael from when he was a young child until 2017, helping him win 14 Grand Slams.
Unfortunately, having the wrong family member as a coach can lead to severe consequences, especially if it is an unstable male with a misdirected sense of power. That is what happened in the horrendous footage of a father assaulting his daughter.
The despicable video below of the incident comes with a trigger warning. It is a vile act of violence, and the man responsible deserves to be prosecuted for what he did to the girl.
Igor Juric, a famous public figure in Croatia, shared a video on his Instagram profile with a caption stating that criminal charges against the man involved would be filed.
"Another brutal violence from a father against his daughter. I was informed that this is a family coming from China. We will be filing criminal charges against this monster as well."
