Wimbledon commentary may seem seamless but getting the names, nations and numbers correct 100% of the time can prove problematic at times.
Chris Evert proved during the first-round clash between Elena Rybakina and Shelby Rogers. Defending Wimbledon champion Rybakina was given a tough contest against Rogers on Centre Court and the Khazakstani player lost the first set 6-4.
However, the 25-year-old raced back into contention with a resounding 6-1 win in the second set before she wrapped up the victory with a 6-2 score in the final set.
It was certainly a game of ups and downs and co-commentator Evert had a tough time keeping up with the action at times. During her analysis during the match, Evert confused Rybakina's country of Kazakhstan with the name of fellow WTA player Daria Kasatkina.
"Rybakina is a Russian, played for Russia, moved to Kasatkina... Kazakhstan, excuse me."
The stumbling of words was seen by Daria Kasatkina, who saw plenty of humour in the incident. Shortly after the commentary mix up, the Russian player took to her own Twitter channel to share the video and provided an amusing reply to the blunder.
"They just created a new country."
During her own Wimbledon campaign, Kasatkina has performed positively after racing into the third round of the Grand Slam. The 26-year-old defeated American player Caroline Dolehide in the first round before besting UK player Jodie Burrage on Centre Court in the second round.
As the schedule at Wimbledon has been delayed due to continuous rain on days two and three, both Rybakina and Kasatkina will have to wait and see who they will face in the next rounds. However, reigning champion Rybakina will face either Alize Cornet or Nao Hibino in the second round, while Kasatkina will face the winner of the Victoria Azarenka-Nadia Podoroska match, which has not concluded yet.
