After a challenging period of injuries and early tournament exits, Venus Williams is setting her sights on a 'fearless' return to the clay courts in 2023.
The seven-time singles Grand Slam champion is eager to make her mark after spending a lot of time on the sidelines and overcoming a series of injuries that forced her to miss the majority of the 2022 season.
Then, she returned to competitive tennis in 2023 and recorded her first victory in 18 months at the ASB Classic in Auckland. However, later, she was forced to withdraw from the 2023 Australian Open, and the injury kept her out of play until now.
In a Q&A session with fans on her fashion brand EleVen's Instagram account, which is the American's personal apparel brand, Williams expressed her hopes of returning to action during the upcoming clay season.
When asked if she plans to participate in any of the tournaments on the WTA Tour, Venus responded with optimism, saying:
"I would love to! That's the plan. We will see."
This announcement comes as a breath of fresh air for fans who have been eagerly waiting for the former World No. 1 to reclaim her rightful place on the court.
There are many tournaments that she can enter, such as the Madrid Open, the Italian Open in Rome, or also the Roland Garros, even though she has never had much success on the clay courts in her career.
Williams' determination to overcome obstacles and return to the game she loves is nothing short of inspiring. In the Q&A session, Williams also shared her primary goals for 2023, stating:
"To reach my potential and play fearless. This time has been tough as I've been out a long time now. But all I can do is do the work and have a little fun too."
