Swiatek Joins Legendary Company With Third Consecutive Roland Garros Title

Iga Swiatek has now won Roland Garros three times in a row, a historic feat as she is one of only two other players to have done it.

The first time the Polish player won Roland Garros was during the pandemic in 2020, a surprise run by the then-teenager. She won her second in 2022, and that was only the beginning of the iconic run that is still going on.

She won the next one last year, which was her third overall and second in a row, and completed the historic achievement this year by beating Jasmine Paolini in the final. So what's the historic achievement? It's winning Roland Garros three times in a row because it's only been done twice before by a woman.

The first female player to ever do it was Monica Seles, who won in 1990, 1991, and 1992. The second woman to ever do it was Justine Henin, who won in 2005, 2006, and 2007. No other player has ever won three times in a row until this year when Swiatek added her third in a row in 2024.

That's amazing because now, she's at 21 wins in a row at the event, which is certainly historic territory. Winning a fourth overall title also puts her in contention for possibly ending up with the most trophies ever among women because that record is held by Chris Evert, who won the French major seven times.

Swiatek is now at four titles, and she's only 23, with many more years of tennis to come. Her performance this year and in years past certainly shows that nobody is close to her level on this surface, so it's pretty hard to imagine that her run will suddenly stop, and that's why many back her to even challenge Rafael Nadal's 14 titles in Paris.
