Swiatek Crushes Potapova 6-0, 6-0 To Reach Roland Garros Quarter-Finals

Iga Swiatek is the number one favorite for this year's Roland Garros, and she proved why in her fourth-round match against Anastasia Potapova.

The Polish player handed out her first bagel at this year's Roland Garros. It came against Potapova, who is a very capable player, especially on clay, where she utilizes her baseline play to move opponents around.

That's neat and fine, but it doesn't really work when you have a player who is far better at doing that than you are, and that's what happened in this match. The world no. 1 player took an early break and then kept her foot on the pedal to really smash her opponent without any problems.

The opening set finished 6-0 for Swiatek as she had 7 winners and only one unforced error in that one. She's generally been on a tear this year outside of the match against Naomi Osaka, where she had to save a match point.

This one wasn't like that, as Swiatek was absolutely locked in while Potapova largely looked powerless. Things didn't improve that dramatically in the second set either, as Swiatek took an early break once more to take a 3-0 lead.

Potapova tried her best to stay competitive in the match, but she couldn't, as Swiatek was too strong. Every good shot was paid for by unforced errors, as she had three times as many unforced errors as good shots.

Ultimately, it was just a demonstration of power from Swiatek, who is playing by far the best tennis in Paris. An incredible performance from Osaka put a bit of a dent into her image, but that was just an incredible shot-making display from Osaka. Very few can match that sort of display, and Potapova couldn't, as Swiatek won the match 6-0, 6-0 in 40 minutes.
