Iga Swiatek won her fourth Roland Garros in five years, elevating her status in the WTA's Top 10 list of highest prize money earners.
Swiatek has topped the prize money charts in each of the last two seasons on the women's tour, finishing as World No. 1 each time. At that time, she won Roland Garros every season and is now in pole position to surpass Chris Evert's record haul of seven French Opens.
And the 23-year-old's unrivaled dominance at the clay-court major since the start of 2020 has provided her with the launchpad to stamp her name into the list of wealthiest tennis players.
Last year, Swiatek earned $9,857,686, helping her become the highest-paid women's athlete. This year she looks set to break that total before the end of 2024. With five months of the regular season to go, she's earned $6,683,749. There are still millions of dollars up for grabs in two more Grand Slams and WTA 1000s.
Swiatek collected a paycheck of €2.4 million with her Roland Garros title, enabling her to increase her career earnings past the $30 million mark ($31,276,512). She overtook fellow Pole Agnieszka Radwańska and rose to ninth.
At this year's Indian Wells Open, the World no. 1 rose to the 10th spot for the first time after amassing over $25 million in career earnings. There is a good chance that Swiatek will end the year in the Top 5 of this list.
Currently, two-time Grand Slam champion Victoria Azarenka occupies the fifth spot, making almost $38 million in her career. Swiatek would probably need another major win (potentially at Wimbledon or the US Open) to get closer to the Belarusian.
And the prospect of the WTA Finals offering record prize money at the end of the season could give Swiatek a major advantage. She became the first player to qualify for the 2024 season-ending championships, which will be held in Saudi Arabia for the first time.
