Polish channel Canal+ Sport has been brutal in its assessment of the playing conditions at the WTA Finals in Cancun and even dedicated an entire show to talk about it.
The WTA's year-end showpiece event has garnered a massive number of detractors due to its absurd scheduling. A couple of days ago, tennis legend Martina Navratilova questioned WTA CEO Steve Simon's decision-making and called for a change at the helm, preferably a woman.
The WTA Finals has been marred with multiple disruptions due to the weather and players have voiced complaints of the court. Many onlookers and tennis pundits have related the quick logistics of putting the court in one piece in under a week as being the primary cause of strange bounces.
Canal+ Sport, on its official YouTube channel, had been live streaming the build-up to the matches and and post-match assessment of the weather conditions interviewing the players, and getting firsthand thoughts about the surface.
The footage on the said channel has not been seen anywhere on live broadcast and captures the strong winds and rainy days at the tournament. The reporters also held on-court interviews with the players at the tournament including their countrywoman Iga Swiatek in Polish language.
In one of the interviews with Coco Gauff, the American admitted even though she hails from Florida where the winds can blow just as strong, it is nothing compared to Cancun, calling it the "toughest conditions that she's ever played in her career."
"It's our job to show you what's on the ground. What's more - some people from the WTA are already starting to snoop around, saying that they don't like it, that we're telling the truth. Well, that's too bad "This is our role here. That's why we came here, not for a holiday."
In light of all the chaos, the final could not be held on Sunday due to an overflow of matches following a rain delay. The championship match between Iga Swiatek and Jessica Pegula will be played on Monday, November 6.
