Ons Jabeur named Arab Sports Personality of the Year

Ons Jabeur is loved by fans worldwide, but the Tunisian is particularly adored in the Middle East and North Africa. That has been demonstrated by the 28-year-old being named the Arab Sports Personality of the Year.

Jabueur has enjoyed a breakthrough 2022 season. She reached the Wimbledon final in July and became a crowd favorite throughout her time in London due to her varied playing style, which includes slices, drop shots, and net play.

The Tunisian was just one set away from winning her maiden Grand Slam title in the final against Elena Rybakina, but the Kazakhstani stormed back to triumph and leave Jabeur devastated.

However, Jabeur's recovery at the US Open was highly impressive. Her run to the final at Flushing Meadows included a resounding victory against Caroline Garcia to set up a final against Iga Swiatek.

Sadly for Jabeur and her fans, there was more heartbreak in New York. Swiatek in straight sets and was also surprised with a delicious treat of tiramisu during the post-match press conference.

Although those moments were tough, Jabeur did win the biggest title of her career at the Madrid Open in May. She secured the WTA 1000 title with a three-set win against Jessica Pegula in the final.

Those achievements led to Jabeur becoming the second player to qualify for the WTA Finals, which was one of her goals at the start of the season. The prestigious season-ending tournament will be held in Texas.

Jabeur's achievements already led to Tunisia issuing a national stamp in her honor in August, and the two-time Grand Slam champion has now been named the Arab Sports Personality of the Year.
