'I'm Not A Lavish Spender': Raducanu Talks Of Parents Influence On Spending Habits

British tennis star Emma Raducanu revealed she is not a lavish spender and credits her parents' influence for instilling financial discipline with her own money.

Raducanu is a multimillionaire thanks to her historic US Open triumph two years ago that had an imminent effect on her stock, with sponsorship offers floating in from high-profile companies. Back then, she was 18 when she became the first and thus far only qualifier to win a Grand Slam.

Raducanu's potential was so inviting that when she got to the fourth round of the US Open in 2021, her agent Max Eisenbud sensed she could be on the verge of something special, and began phoning his colleagues to initiate talks with fashion brands.

Raducanu has not been remotely close to repeating her Cinderella story from New York two summers ago, largely because of debilitating injuries and catching the inconsistency bug. She is currently out of action recovering from wrist and ankle surgeries. But despite her on-court earnings diminishing due to her inactivity, she's made a fortune in endorsement deals.

At 20 and with the best years of her tennis career patently ahead of her, Raducanu has emerged as one of the most marketable tennis players in the world. Forbes reports that the British sensation earned a lucrative sum of $15.3 million and was the sixth-highest-paid tennis player in the past 12 months.

From that figure, only a measly $0.3 million was garnered in the form of tennis prize money, with the bulk of it coming from endorsements. But Raducanu shed light on her spending behavior in a recent interview with the Times UK, believing she is not a lavish spender because her parents inculcated some sort of mantra when it comes to flexing her wallet.

"I wouldn’t say I’m a lavish spender. My parents really taught me about the value of money and not to spend or splurge, and that’s become really useful for me growing up."
